Absorption Manufacturer Broad China Chillers LTD Enters U.S. Market With 100 to 2600-Ton Units
Broad China Chillers LTD., which is considered the largest manufacturer of heavy tonnage direct-fired absorption (DFA) chiller / heaters, is a new member of the American Gas Cooling Center. Based in Changsha, P.R.C., Broad maintains a TUV-awarded ISO 9001 manufacturing facility of 3,000 units, ranging from 100 to 2600 tons.

Broad recently began offering its DFA chiller to North American markets through its subsidiary, Broad USA, Ltd., in New York. ``With this move into the world market, Broad China seeks to continue the tradition of entrepreneurial spirit and innovation that is the company's hallmark," says Caihong Zhang, regional director, Broad USA Ltd.
``The company has focused on making a DFA chiller as reliable and efficient as an electric chiller, and possibly even more efficient. All aspects of manufacture are based on a 20-year minimum, trouble-free service life," according to Zhang.
More than 100 technical achievements are incorporated into the Broad chiller; several dozen are patented. The chiller registers a COP of 1.16, with the chilled water temperature going as low as 37F degrees (3Cdegrees) and hot water as high as 203Fdegrees (95C degrees). Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is scheduled to test for standards UL 726 and UL 795 in November.

``The Broad chiller is designed to meet the most rigorous operating environment," Zhang explains. ``In China where scaling factor of supplied water varies from 60 to 400ppm, it is unrealistic to expect operators to filter replacement cooling water needed by hundreds of tons each day. The chiller has to operate without filtered water. There are also problems associated with lesser quality of supplied gas and sometimes unstable voltage of supplied electric. All of these conditions require a top-quality product. More than 3,000 customer installations throughout China attest to our strength, quality and results. None of them has caused a breakdown longer than one hour; many of them have run continuously and trouble-free for ore than 25,000 hours. Problems commonly found in absorption chillers, such as crystallization, decreased output capacity, and scaling have never their way into a Broad chiller since the V generation model."
Zhang continues, ``The Broad chiller is equipped with the best components and electronic devices available. Because of its considerably lower labor costs, Broad can devote more attention to using quality materials in the manufacturing process." All tubes are imported from Japan, and all electronic parts, including the burner, are German made. Other highlights of the products are these:
- three functions: cooling, heating, sanitary (domestic) hot water;
- flow rate of chilled water, hot water and cooling water variable with system load form 30% to 120%; and
- Artificial Intelligence Controls: 15-line, 350-character backlit LCD display in clear English.
